1 Admit > n Dings

Hi there,

If you are reading this blog, you are either a dear friend of mine who has been asked to (or forced to - as the case may be) read this or a stranger who has stumbled upon this blog for some sort of B-School/MBA gyaan. Irrespective of your identity, for the coming year, this blog will be an opportunity for you and, more importantly, for myself to keep abreast of my progress in my quest to get into a B-School.

The above average sentence construction in the first paragraph, if true, throws maximum weight behind the argument that I may have ATLEAST started preparing for the GMAT. This is obviously based on the assumption that an average B-School blogger - who has NOT taken the GMAT - does NOT already possess the skill of decent sentence construction.

If you were able to crack the logic in the previous paragraph with just a single read, you are well on your way to cracking some of them Critical Reasoning questions. The fact that it took me two reads just to be sure proves the fact that my 95 percentile in the Verbal section of the GMAT was justified. Yes, I have taken the GMAT. A 720 is what I have to show for my efforts, with a breakup of Q46 and V42.

The funniest bit post your exam is how people ask you, "How was it?" This is just a polite way for them to say, "How much?" It really did give me a kick to make people who had asked me the first question ask me the second. (Previous sentence - 'Too wordy','Awkward construction', I know). My answer to the polite version was 'Good'. Those who found it necessary to maintain their politeness would ask - "How good?"..."Uhh..very good"..."Just tell me how much goddammit!"..."Oh! I thought you'd never ask..I scored a 720."

Please do not misunderstand me. I am not being cocky about my score. I am not someone who thinks that by just getting a good score I am through to a program of my choice. Anything, but! I have seen a good number of my friends who have done extremely well in their entrance examinations but have failed to get into even a single program - forget a program of choice. I am very well aware that the GMAT is just one component of the entire package. A package that also needs good acads, meaningful recos, strong work ex and eventually an ability to communicate all of these in a single application.

And, this is the exact reason why I am blogging. So, that I can motivate myself to do better. The fact that others are actually watching me go about the application process will only help me take my game to another level. A level at which I hope ''1 Admit > n Dings, where, 1 Admit changes my life and n is any number of dings I face in the process"
